HOW TO GROW SEEDSGrowing questions

1. How long does it take for cannabis seeds to germinate?

There are several germination techniques to choose from, so how long it takes depends on which germination technique you use. Subject to which one you use, you can expect your cannabis seeds to germinate within 3-7 days. The nature of live plant matter is unpredictable, how long it takes for a cannabis seed to germinate is not an exact science, and each cannabis seed is unique.

2. My seed(s) haven’t sprouted, what could be wrong?

The majority of seed failures are caused by the environment in which the cannabis seed is germinated. If the medium used is unsuitable, too wet, too dry or exposed to light, the cannabis seed will fail to sprout. Your cannabis seed might be healthy but require more time to sprout. It can take 3-7 days for cannabis seeds to germinate, and in extreme cases, 10 days.

3. My seed sprouted, but the seed shell did not fall off. What can I do?

The seed shell will shed as the plant grows, and there is no reason to be concerned. If the seed shell remains attached after a few days, you can gently remove it using a clean, dry pair of tweezers.

4. How (long) can I store my cannabis seeds?

Optimal conditions for storing cannabis seeds must be clean, dry and at a consistently cool temperature. Cannabis seeds should be kept in airtight water-resistant containers that prevent contact with moisture. If stored in optimal conditions, cannabis seeds keep for up to 10 years unfrozen and 20 years when frozen.

* Please note that cannabis seeds are live plant matter and unpredictable by nature. Our estimates are based on averages reported by growers and breeders internationally.

6. How do I germinate cannabis seeds?

Germinating cannabis seeds can be the most intimidating part of cultivating for any grower, and there are several techniques to germinate cannabis seeds.

Seed to Paper Towel
Take a piece of damp paper towel or material like cotton wool balls, place it on a plate and add your cannabis seed. Add another piece of the same moist material you used on top of the first piece holding your cannabis seed. Check your paper towel or cotton wool ball daily to see if your cannabis seeds have sprouted. Once sprouted, using a clean, dry pair of tweezers, you should immediately transfer your seedlings to your growing medium.

Seed to Soil
Place your seed approximately 3mm from the soil surface and make sure the soil is moist, not soaking wet. Then cover your cannabis seed with loose soil and sprinkle it with water daily. Experts estimate this technique has a 70 – 80% chance of success.

7. How do I germinate old cannabis seeds?

Optimal conditions for storing cannabis seeds must be clean, dry and at a consistently cool temperature. Cannabis seeds should be kept in airtight water-resistant containers that prevent contact with moisture. If stored in optimal conditions, cannabis seeds keep for up to 10 years unfrozen and 20 years when frozen.

* Please note that cannabis seeds are live plant matter and unpredictable by nature. Our estimates are based on averages reported by growers and breeders internationally.

8. What is the difference between regular (photoperiod) and autoflower seeds?

Regular cannabis seeds occur naturally when a male cannabis plant pollinates a female cannabis plant. Regular seeds have a 50/50 chance of being male or female.

Photoperiod or Feminized cannabis seeds are genetically modified to be 100% female cannabis seeds. Autoflower or Automatic cannabis seeds are genetically modified to include another species of cannabis called Ruderalis that flowers faster and under harsher climates than regular or photoperiod cannabis seeds. Additionally, automatic cannabis plants have a short life cycle and are 100% female.

9. How long will it take for my plant to flower?

How long a plant takes to flower depends on the cannabis plant you are growing and the light schedule you are working. When growing Automatic cannabis seeds, you have no control over when they will start the flowering stage. Automatic cannabis plants will begin to flower approximately 21 days from germination regardless of specific lighting requirements.

Photoperiod and Regular cannabis seeds will take longer to flower depending on the light schedule you subject them to and how long the vegetation period lasts. Most growers give the plant 18 hours during the vegetation stage, which lasts on average for four weeks, sometimes longer. Growers then switch to 12 hours of light, and 12 hours of dark, which forces the plant to start flowering.

10. When will I know if the plant is ready to harvest?

When a cannabis plant is ready for harvest, the hairs known as pistils turn from white to orange or dark brown. This is identified with the use of a magnifying glass. Other signs include the discolouring of the leaves – turning yellow and dry – and the density of the flowers.

11. Is it allowed to grow cannabis anywhere?

You should check the laws of your respective country before purchasing cannabis seeds. The Bulldog Seeds are collector’s items bred and sold to preserve cannabis genetics for future generations. Cannabis growing laws vary from country to country, but it remains illegal in most countries to grow cannabis.
